Embrace Earth

Whew!  You heard me.  Whew!  It’s been a few months now since word came out about “The Mars 100”.  And time has been flying – just like the Starship Enterprise.   Believe it or not, today is the first day I’ve had to catch my breath and start thinking in a serious way about what I’d like this space (no pun intended) to be.

Watched the news lately?  The world has gone nuts.  That’s a technical term.  Nuts.  A mass shooting in a South Carolina church, a Canadian senator embroiled in a sex scandal, a Canadian journalist fired for using his professional contacts to broker expensive art, and now… yes, ladies and gentlemen… Donald Trump wants to be President.  Oy vey.  That’s a technical term. Oy vey.

If a girl ever had a reason to go to Mars, this was it.

But wait.  Apparently, it’s not all “Danger, Will Robinson!”

This weekend, I had the privilege of attending a phenomenal conference in Toronto called “ideacity”.  If you’ve never heard of it, I urge you to watch videos of the amazing speakers who present there each year at www.ideacityonline.com.

One of those speakers this year was an academic and writer named Paul Robinson.  This guy has an interesting take on things.  According to him, the world isn’t as bad as the news would have us believe… There are fewer wars, murders and incidents of terrorism now than at almost any other time in recorded history.  Graphs, charts, you name it… He has the proof. Robinson says this is a GOLDEN AGE, and it’s time for us to enjoy it.

Imagine that.  Enjoy the world!!!  Enjoy your life.  Enjoy the gift of breathing in and out every day.   Enjoy your relationships with other people, enjoy eating in the healthiest way you can, enjoy moving your body to slow the effects of aging, enjoy developing your gifts and talents to the nth degree and reaching your God-given potential.  What a concept.

This is my mission, should I choose to accept it.  And I do.

Before I head for Mars with the Mars One Mission, there’s a Millennium Falcon full of things to enjoy right here on this planet.   So much to experience!  Smells, tastes, sights, sounds, feelings and relationships.  You couldn’t ask for a richer tapestry of human experience than the one we have  in our own backyards.

My pledge?   To think differently about this big blue marble we’re spinning on.  And to encourage you to do the same.

Ready to embrace Earth?  Let’s do this. 😉
